2026 University of Waterloo District Event

Team DAVE had a blast at our hometown event of the season at the University of Waterloo! At the event, we competed against teams from across Ontario and from WWFIRST for the chance to win our first competition in the Ontario District from March 26th to 28th.

DAVE started qualifications matches off in Match 1 with a win, going up against fellow WWFIRST teams throughout the day. Despite issues with our robot, we had a strong performance due to the hard work of our pit crew. Our Impact Award team presented in front of judges, answering questions about the team’s outreach. We ended the Friday off with a record of 7-2, ranking 4th by the end of the day.

The next day started with a tough loss, as we lost 2 of our 3 qualification matches. We ended qualifications ranked 7th out of 31 teams with a record of 8-4. In alliance selection, DAVE selected teams 2702 – Rebels and 3756 – RamFerno to round off Alliance 4.

Our playoff performance started off with a win, dropping into the lower bracket after we lost Playoff Match 7 against Alliance 1. We competed with determination in the lower bracket, winning Playoff Matches 9 and 12 until our run came to an end in Playoff Match 13 against Alliance 2 before finals.

DAVE was honoured to win our second Autonomous Award of the season and play with a fellow WWFIRST member team during elimination matches. Congratulations to Alliance 1 of 4846 – The Alpha Dogs, 4678 – CyberCavs, and 4308 – Absolute Robotics for winning the event! A big thank you to our sponsors, mentors, parents, teachers, and supporters for cheering us on along the journey. Next up, DAVE competes at the Niagara College District Event from April 10th to 12th.

2026 Canadian Pacific Regional

Team DAVE’s first visit at the Canadian Pacific Regional in Vancouver, British Columbia was spectacular! In our first regional since 2016, we competed against teams from across the country and world in an event filled with excitement and fun.

DAVE arrived in Vancouver on March 2nd, spending the Tuesday and Wednesday exploring British Columbia. We visited Grouse Mountain, Lee Valley’s suspension bridge, Granville Island, and Stanley Park, immersing ourselves in an unfamiliar yet exciting province.

We started off qualifications on Friday with a strong win, going 7-0 on the first day and ranking 1st. DAVE enjoyed the day interacting with teams from Canada, the United States, China, Vietnam, and Chinese Taipei, forming friendships across the world.

On Saturday, we finished qualification matches with a record of 9-1, ranking 2nd out of 44 teams! DAVE headed right into alliance selection, being chosen by the 1st rank team, 359 – Hawaiian Kids. We rounded off our alliance by selecting a British Columbian team, 9180 – Ursa Major Robotics to join us in Alliance 1.

Alliance 1 headed off to playoff matches, starting off with a dominant win. We encountered troubles in Playoff Match 7, narrowly winning against Alliance 4 with a score of 221-218. From there, we won Playoff Match 11 to make it to the Finals. After going undefeated in Playoffs, Alliance 1 clenched the victory at the Canadian Pacific Regional.

In addition to becoming Regional Winners, DAVE was honoured to be awarded the Autonomous Award sponsored by Google.org for our strong autonomous performance and robot design. Thank you to our sponsors, parents, mentors, and supporters for cheering us on along the way! Next up, DAVE competes at the University of Waterloo District Event from March 26th to 28th in our hometown of Waterloo!
