Today we got started at 5 p.m. and whipped up a rolling chassis and attached most of the power train components. Drive chains still need to be mounted in order to have something that can move around on its own. But man, can she ever roll! We also worked on a prototype ball picker-upper mechanism. It works. In the beginning there was nothing. And then, at noon, everyone showed up and started working on our robot for this year’s FIRST Robotics Competition: Rebound Rumble.
After warm introductions and brutally interrogating the students on their knowledge of the intricate game rules (they passed!), we broke up into smaller groups of students and mentors to brainstorm game play strategies and design ideas.
